ABSTRACT
Successful biological development via spatial and temporal regulations of cell differentiation relies on the action multiple signaling molecules that are known as morphogens. It is now well established create nonuniform concentration profiles, called morphogen gradients, activate different genes, leading to patterning in developing organisms. The current view formation gradients it a result complex reaction-diffusion processes include production, diffusion, degradation molecules. Recent studies also suggest morphogens critically important step whole process. We develop theoretical model allows us investigate role spatially varying gradients. Our analysis shows inhomogeneities might strongly influence dynamics profiles. Physical-chemical mechanisms underlying discussed.
