ABSTRACT
A complex interplay between the crystal structure and electron behavior within borophene renders this material an intriguing 2D system with many of its electronic properties still undiscovered. Experimental insight into those is additionally hampered by limited capabilities established synthesis methods, which in turn inhibits realization potential applications. In multi-method study, photoemission spectroscopies scanning probe techniques complemented theoretical calculations have been used to investigate characteristics a high-coverage, single-layer on Ir(111) substrate. Our results show that binding exhibits pronounced one-dimensional modulation transforms nano-grating. The scattering photoelectrons from structural grating gives rise replication bands. addition, reflected chemical reactivity inhomogeneous aging effect. Such easily reset dissolving boron atoms iridium at high temperature followed their reassembly fresh atomically-thin mesh. Besides proving electron-grating monolayer, our data provides comprehensive epitaxial vital for further examination other systems reduced dimensionality.
