ABSTRACT
Inspired by nacre, this is the first time that using cross-linking of alginate with Ca ions to fabricate organic-inorganic nacre-inspired films we have successfully prepared a new class Ca2+ ion enhanced montmorillonite (MMT)-alginate (ALG) composites, realizing an optimum combination high strength (∼280 MPa) and toughness (∼7.2 MJ m-3) compared other MMT based artificial nacre. Furthermore, temperature performance composites (with maximum ∼170 MPa at 100 °C) along excellent transmittance, fire retardancy, unique shape memory response alcohols could greatly expand application mutilfunctional which are believed show competitive advantages in transportion, construction, insulations, protection flammable biological material, etc.
