Manipulation of Chain Conformation for Optimum Charge-Transport Pathways in Conjugated Polymers

ABSTRACT
A pair of different diketopyrrolopyrrole-based conjugated polymers (CPs) were designed and synthesized to investigate the effect chain conformation on their molecular assembly. Conformation management was achieved by incorporation linkers during polymerization. Through use computational calculations UV-vis absorption measurements, resulting CPs (PDPP-T PDPP-BT) found exhibit partly modulated geometry. Grazing incident X-ray diffraction experiments with a two-dimensional detector revealed that PDPP-T having planar exhibited an edge-on type arrangement, which evolved face-on assembly when geometry altered slightly twisted one as in PDPP-BT. In addition, it verified directional electric carrier mobility critically distinguished distinctive arrangement spite similar chemical structure. Concentration-dependent measurements could provide improved understanding mechanism CP chains: facilitates formation preassembled chains concentrated solution further directs stacking, while dihedral angle along benzothiophene PDPP-BT prevents assembly, stacking. Because is inevitably connected generation chains, manipulating be efficient tool for extracting optimum principal charge-transport pathway CPs.
