ABSTRACT
Sensitive and rapid biosensors are of critical importance for a variety applications including infectious disease detection monitoring as well medical diagnostics drug discovery. Whispering gallery mode microtoroid optical resonators among the most sensitive biochemical sensors in existence. When combined with frequency-locking data-processing techniques, these have been shown to be capable single-molecule under 30 s. The sensitivity is affected by how concentration analyte molecules transported surface average time it takes bind at that concentration. Currently, one question field low concentrations, microsensors achieve such response times. Here, we reconcile theory experiment demonstrate through flow visualization experiments finite-element simulations total arrival binding can on order seconds. This fast provides an advantage over nanoscale nanowires or nanorods. We anticipate results help us control, confidence, when many sensors, thus enabling building faster more sensors.
