ABSTRACT
The performance of integrated aerobic digestion and ozonation for the treatment high strength distillery wastewater (i.e., cherry stillage) is reported. Experiments were conducted in laboratory batch systems operating draw fill mode. For biological step, activated sludge from a municipal facility was used as inoculum, showing degree activity to wastewater. Thus, BOD COD overall conversions 95% 82% achieved, respectively. However, polyphenol content absorbance at 254 nm (A(254)) could not be reduced more than 35% 15%, respectively, by means single oxidation. By considering substrate, process followed Contois' model kinetics, which maximum specific growth rate microorganisms (mu(max)) inhibition factor, beta, then evaluated different conditions temperature pH. In combined process, effect post-ozonation stage studied. main goals achieved step removal polyphenols A(254). Therefore, shown an appropriate technology aid oxidation stillage.
