ABSTRACT
In this paper we report the synthesis and structural characterization of 2D layered coordination polymer Mg(BPMGLY)(H 2 O) (BPMGLY = bis-phosphonomethylglycine, (HO 3 PCH ) N(H)COO 2-).The Mg ion is found in a slightly distorted octahedral environment formed by four phosphonate oxygens two water molecules. The carboxylate group deprotonated but noncoordinated. This compound useful starting material for number topotactic transformations.Upon heating at 140 °C one (of two) Mg-coordinated molecule lost, with archetype structure maintaining itself. However, now converted to trigonal bipyramidal O).Upon exposure monohydrate ammonia, ammonia inserted into interlayer space stabilized hydrogen bonding. The product O)(NH still maintained, acquiring pseudo-octahedral environment. All these transformations are also accompanied changes bonding between layers.
