ABSTRACT
An inherently nonlinear pyridine dipyrrolate ligand, namely 2,6-bis(3,4-diethyl-5-carboxy-1H-pyrrol-2yl)pyridine (compound 1), is able to distinguish between different zinc(II) cation sources, Zn(acac)2 and Zn(OAc)2, respectively. This differentiation manifest both in terms of the observed fluorescent behavior mixed organic media reaction chemistry. Treatment 1 with gives rise a cage dimer, cage-1, wherein two molecules compound act as double bridging units connect individual subunits. As inferred from X-ray crystallographic studies, this system consists discrete zinc dimers hydroxide bridges that, assistance bound DMF solvent molecules, serve fix geometry orientation building blocks. When source, used carry out an ostensibly similar complexation 1, acetate-bridged 1D abacus-like polymer obtained diffraction analysis. extended solid state structure, cage-2, contains dimer submits appears stabilized by (DMF) counteranion (acetate). Rod-like assemblies are also DLS SEM. construct, contrast proved media. The structure ligand itself (i.e., absence Zn(II)) was confirmed analysis found assemble into supramolecular polymer. Conversion form seen upon addition TBAOAc. On basis metric parameters, structures via hydrogen bonding interactions involving molecules.
