Vinylidene, Allenylidene, and Carbyne Complexes from the Reactions of [OsCl2(PPh3)3] with HC⋮CC(OH)Ph2

ABSTRACT
Treatment of [OsCl2(PPh3)3] with HC⋮CC(OH)Ph2 in benzene at room temperature produces [(PPh3)2ClOs(μ-Cl)3Os(CCHC(OH)Ph2)(PPh3)2], fac-[OsCl3(⋮C−CHCPh2)(PPh3)2], mer-[OsCl3(⋮C−CHCPh2)(PPh3)2], and [OsCl2(CCCPh2)(CO)(PPh3)2]. The latter two complexes are the major products when reaction is carried out refluxing toluene. presence HCl fac-[OsCl3(⋮C−CHCPh2)(PPh3)2] mer-[OsCl3(⋮C−CHCPh2)(PPh3)2]. HPPh3BF4 [OsCl2(⋮C−CHCPh2)(H2O)(PPh3)2]BF4. structures all new have been confirmed by X-ray diffraction.
