ABSTRACT
The authors hypothesized that relations between temperature and assaults are stronger during evening hours than other of the day tested this hypothesis by obtaining 3-hr measures assaults, temperature, weather variables for a 2-year interval. was confirmed autoregressio n analyses controlled secular trends, seasonal differences, variables, holidays, calendar events. In addition, as predicted negative affect escape model, declined after reaching peak at moderately high temperatures. inverted Ushaped relation survived tests seasonality, autocorrelation, outliers, heteroscedasticity. consistent with routine activity theory, moderator-variable regression indicated were strongest on weekends.
