ABSTRACT
To describe the outcomes of cataract surgery in United Kingdom. Anonymised data on 180 114 eyes from 127 685 patients undergoing between August 2006 and November 2010 were collected prospectively 28 sites. Outcome measures included intraoperative postoperative complication rates, preoperative visual acuities. Median age at first eye was 77.1 years, 36.9% cases had ocular co-pathology 41.0% underwent both eyes. Preoperative acuity 0.30 logMAR or better 32.0% 47.7% second Postoperative best-measured 0.00 50.8 94.6% without co-pathology, 32.5 79.9% with co-pathology. For uncorrected distance 27.3 80.9% Posterior capsule rupture vitreous loss occurred 1.95% cases, associated a 42 times higher risk retinal detachment within 3 months an eight endophthalmitis. These results provide updated for benchmarking surgery. Visual outcomes, rate posterior appear stable over past decade.
