Prevalence of Obesity and Associated Risk Factors in a Turkish Population (Trabzon City, Turkey)

ABSTRACT
Abstract Objective : To estimate the prevalence of overweight and obesity (general central) in Trabzon Region its associations with demographic factors (age, sex, marital status, reproductive history women, level education), socioeconomic (household income occupation), family selected medical conditions (diabetes, hypertension, obesity), lifestyle (smoking habits, physical activity, alcohol consumption), hypertension adult population. Research Methods Procedures A sample households was systematically from central province five towns, namely, Sürmene, Vakfikebir, Maçka, Hayrat, Tonya. total 5016 subjects (2728 women 2288 men) were included study. Individuals more than 20 years old their health cards. Demographic factors, conditions, obtained for all participants. Systolic blood pressure diastolic levels measured subjects. Study procedures carried out local centers each town over an 8‐month period. Obesity defined as BMI ≥ 30 kg/m 2 = 25.0 to 29.9 . Results The 23.5%: 29.4% 16.5% men. combined both 60.3%. abdominal 29.4%: 38.9% among 18.1% increased age, being highest 60‐ 69‐year‐old age group (40.8%) but lower again 70+ group. associated positively parity, cessation cigarette smoking, consumption, household inversely education, use, activity. Also, hypertension. Discussion In Region, 60.3% population presents some excess weight. is a major public problem that requires generalized interventions prevent it
