ABSTRACT
Root traits such as root angle and hair length influence resource acquisition particularly for immobile nutrients like phosphorus (P). Here, we attempted to modify in rice by disrupting the OsAUX1 auxin influx transporter gene an effort improve P efficiency. We show X-ray microCT imaging that is altered osaux1 mutant, causing preferential foraging top soil where normally accumulates, yet surprisingly, efficiency does not improve. Through closer investigation, reveal also promotes elongation response limitation. Reporter studies increases zone low environments. demonstrate functions mobilize from apex differentiation this signal when roots encounter external P. conclude play key roles promoting rice.
