ABSTRACT
Abstract Fibroblast growth factor-21 (FGF-21) performs a wide range of biological functions in organisms. Here, we report for the first time that FGF-21 suppresses thrombus formation with no notable risk bleeding. Prophylactic and therapeutic administration significantly improved degree vascular stenosis reduced area, volume burden. We determined antithrombotic mechanism FGF-21, demonstrating exhibits an anticoagulant effect by inhibiting expression activity factor VII (FVII). exerts antiplatelet platelet activation. enhances fibrinolysis promoting tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) activation, while inhibitor 1 (PAI-1) further found mediated activation tPA PAI-1 regulating ERK1/2 TGF-β/Smad2 pathways, respectively. In addition, inhibits inflammatory factors thrombosis NF-κB pathway.
