ABSTRACT
Abstract Fibroblast growth factor receptor 2 (FGFR2) has two isoforms: IIIb type and IIIc type. Clinicopathologic significance of these FGFR2 subtypes in gastric cancer remains to be known. This study aimed clarify the clinicopathologic difference FGFR2IIIb and/or FGFR2IIIc overexpression. A total 562 patients who underwent gastrectomy was enrolled. The expressions were retrospectively examined by immunohistochemistry or fluorescence situ hybridization (FISH) using tumors. We evaluated correlation between features overexpression cancer. observed 28 cases (4.9%), four (0.7%). All also positive for FGFR2IIIb, but not same cells. significantly correlated with lymph node metastasis clinical stage. Both associated poor overall survival. multivariate analysis showed that expression FISH indicated amplification These findings suggested tumor overexpressed at frequency 4.9%. might independent prognostic
