ABSTRACT
Purpose A significant relationship between verbal short-term memory (STM) and language performance in people with aphasia has been found across studies. However, very few studies have examined the predictive value of STM treatment outcomes. This study aims to determine if can be used as a predictor success. Method Retrospective data from 25 larger randomized controlled trial phonomotor were analyzed. Digit word spans immediately pretreatment run multiple linear regression models whether they predict magnitude change pre- posttreatment follow-up naming accuracy. Pretreatment, posttreatment, 3 months digit span scores compared changed following novel approach. Results Verbal STM, measured by spans, did not accuracy nor posttreatment. Furthermore, or overall analysis. post hoc analysis revealed that only less impaired group showed changes Discussion The results suggest do gains. In severe subsample participants, treatment; however, may significantly. implications these findings are discussed within broader purview theoretical empirical associations aphasic processing.
