ABSTRACT
Abstract Background Screening for abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is commonly restricted to men. Recent studies have indicated a possible increase in deaths due ruptured AAA women, and higher rate of rupture women than The present report details results from randomized controlled trial that assessed the effects screening AAA. Methods Some 9342 aged 65–80 years were entered into age-matched screen control groups. A single ultrasonographic scan was offered arm study. Women with an received follow-up scans, considered elective surgery if certain criteria met. Results prevalence six times lower (1·3 per cent) men (7·6 cent). Over 5- 10-year intervals, incidence same screened groups women. Conclusion neither clinically nor economically viable.
