Rural interprofessional education: Promoting teamwork in primary health care education and practice

ABSTRACT
In a climate of increasing incentives to work effectively within primary health care team, the ability various professionals collaborate comes into focus. The principles effective teamwork can be learned and this learning is most achieved in field under supervision experienced preceptors. It also enhanced if learners have opportunity participate actively team do so from undergraduate level. A 3 year project underway Victoria involving rural placements for mixed groups nursing medical students. students are educated by tutors preceptors who currently working closely together. objectives include understanding collaboration, roles framework. present paper describes context an evolving interprofessional education care, designed promote collaboration. outlines policy underpinning project's development. provides brief review associated evidence base, highlighting barriers enablers education. Lessons learnt during implementation evaluation will guide efforts extend reach across sector.
