ABSTRACT
Abstract Background : Whether gastric acid secretion decreases with age is still controversial. With the discovery of Helicobacter pylori , association this bacterium has also been discussed. The aim study was to investigate relationship between secretion, and H. infection. Methods presence infection, grade fundic atrophic gastritis (FAG), were investigated in 280 subjects without localized lesions upper gastrointestinal tract. infection confirmed by Giemsa immunohistochemical staining, FAG biopsy specimens graded on a scale 0–4. Results Both basal maximal output decreased ‐positive subjects, while they did not change ‐negative subjects. Gastric progression FAG. An age‐correlated decrease depended an increasing prevalence age. Conclusions In population studied, advancing had no influence because © 2000 Blackwell Science Asia Pty Ltd
