ABSTRACT
This paper presents the principle of operation a new algorithm based on instantaneous values to detect Transient Earth Faults, which has been validated by RTDS simulations and real cases from field. The short duration fault (between 2 10 ms), high frequency fault, transitory state after it disappears, are conditions cause trouble for conventional directional overcurrent units algorithms like Fourier Transform (DFT) or similar that do not have enough accuracy properly this kind faults determine direction (faulty healthy feeders). works with first half cycle signal therefore is independent fault.
