ABSTRACT
A generic inertia emulation controller (INEC) scheme for multi-terminal voltage-source-converter (VSC)-based high voltage direct current (HVDC) systems is proposed in this study. The INEC can be incorporated any grid-side VSC station, allowing the HVDC (MTDC) terminal to contribute an inertial response connected AC during system disturbances, a fashion similar synchronous generators. DC-link capacitors within MTDC are utilised by exchange stored energy with varying overall DC level of network safe and pre-defined range. theoretical treatment algorithm its implementation integration conventional control presented, impact on total capacitance required ensure that voltages vary acceptable range discussed. validated using MATLAB/SIMULINK model under various changes demand faults. incorporates multi-machine power transmission multiple converter-interfaced nodes. effectiveness damping post-fault oscillations enhancing grid frequency stability also investigated.
