ABSTRACT
Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) systems are experiencing a period of rapid growth as potential for industrial and commercial applications arising. Conventional UAV technologies focus on outdoor large area navigation, utilising global positioning system, which has proven to be less effective in enclosed environments. The authors aim develop an indoor navigation specifically require custom sensing aid pilot navigation. A array, featuring ultrasonic transceivers, was developed localise drone position known environment provide feedback. Six subjects were recruited the with without system room pre‐set target at location two cases: (i) line sight, (ii) sight. Flight duration, number collisions, distance from recorded used quantify performance. Using able reduce their flight duration average by 19.7% during obstructed illustrating increased ability confidence piloting using system. This study serves prove this device essential tool localisation inspections.
