ABSTRACT
Abstract Background and study aims Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is commonly performed in a prone or left lateral decubitus (LLD) position. The ocular lens equivalent doses between the two positions may be different because LLD position tube voltage will automatically increase to maintain image quality, increased distance intensifier X-ray result more scattered radiation. We aimed compare of ERCP personnel positions. Patients methods Fifty-five patients with indications were randomized either One patient an was excluded due technical reasons. Indications for ERCP, patients’ vertical thicknesses, fluoroscopy parameters, skin dose rates, ocular-lens compared. Results Baseline characteristics no except thickness, which significantly higher group. (prone vs. LLD) primary endoscopist (19.2 30.7 µSv, P = 0.035), nurse anesthetist (17.3 42.2 0.002) lower group than calculated annual number procedures not exceed exposure allowance 1,042 651 1,157 473 anesthetist, respectively. Conclusions Ocular-radiation one-third Therefore, ERCPs could by personnel.
