ABSTRACT
Abstract Academic journals are the repositories of mankind’s gradually accumulating knowledge surrounding world. Just as is organized into classes ranging from major disciplines, subjects and fields, to increasingly specific topics, can also be categorized groups using various metric. In addition, they ranked according their overall influence. However, recent studies, impact, prestige novelty cannot characterized by a single parameter such as, for example, impact factor. To increase understanding journal gap we set out explore in our study evaluation relevance complex multi-dimensional measures. Thus, first time, objective organize multiple hierarchies based on citation data. The two approaches use designed address this problem different perspectives. We measure related notion m -reaching centrality find network that shows journal’s level influence terms direction efficiency with which information spreads through network. obtain an alternative suitably modified nested hierarchy extraction method applied same case, self-organized way, become branches scientific where local structure reflect within given field, usually most prominent (according other measures) field chosen algorithm root, more specialized positioned deeper branch. This make navigation fields sub-fields very simple, equivalent navigating hierarchy. expect particularly helpful, when choosing appropriate manuscript. According results, show somewhat different, but consistent, picture intricate relations between journals, and, such, provide new perspective how networks.
