ABSTRACT
The self-centering technical approach is used widely to improve building resiliency. This paper presents a double activation brace (DA-SCB) with two groups of disc springs activated successively. Compared current braces (SCBs), the DA-SCB first under small displacement excitation dissipate energy, and reactivated large excitation, leading higher bearing capacity. Cyclic loading tests were conducted on SCB in order comparatively study their energy dissipation behaviors validate hysteretic performance DA-SCB. Moreover, flag–shaped model was developed predict behavior Fifteen-story steel frame models SCBs (SCBF) DA-SCBs (DA-SCBF) analyzed influence reactivation seismic resilience these structures. test results showed that capacity ability highly consistent those within same design parameters. Comparisons prediction indicated proposed can accurately replicate responses SCB. DA-SCBF SCBF have equivalent behavior. However, than SCBF, economic loss after earthquakes decreased by 8.08% compared SCBF. SCB, uses fewer attenuate weak story effect. To sum up, level increases then decreases an increased gap length.
