ABSTRACT
Damages induced on the tungsten surface at two different operating conditions of a kilojoule plasma focus device are studied. In one condition, samples were exposed to axial shocks that formed after pinch disruption, and in other phenomenon was absent or weak. Melting, craters, cracking surfaces observed both cases. former case, charged particle beams post-pinch material ejection will play role impacting surface; however, latter case those phenomena have small contributions because absence weak formation pinch. A damage factor ∼109 W m−2 s0.5 estimated distance 3 cm from exit using method given Akel et al. [J. Fusion Energy 35, 694–701 (2016)] Klimov Nucl. Mater. 390, 721–726 (2009)] for case. The present work suggests pressures lower than pinch-occurring pressure, only shock effects targeted can be studied they separated produced by mixed with occurrence.
