ABSTRACT
In recent years, the key principles of electric power industry have radically changed and number studies on development devices for electrical energy storage in a different form such as mechanical or chemical has rapidly increased. This review gives brief description these devices. The attention is focused redox flow batteries (RFBs), promising type capable efficiently operating distributed grids, order to eliminate imbalance between time-varying electricity production by ‘unconventional sources’ consumption. At design level, RFBs combine fuel cells sources with solid electroactive materials: transitions forms occur upon oxidation reduction redox-active electrolytes, which are stored separate tanks pumped into electrode compartments membrane assembly (MEA) separated semi-permeable membrane. approach ensures an important advantage over other types sources, that is, possibility independent scaling capacity characteristics system. provides systematic main analysis their fundamental benefits drawbacks, determine prospects practical applications RFBs. bibliography includes 149 references.
