ABSTRACT
In light of the marked global health impact tuberculosis (TB), strong focus has been on identifying biosignatures. Gene expression profiles in blood cells identified so far are indicative a persistent activation immune system and chronic inflammatory pathology active TB. Definition biosignature with unique specificity for TB demands that can differentiate diseases similar pathology, like sarcoidosis (SARC). Here, we present detailed comparison between pulmonary SARC, including whole-blood gene profiling, microRNA expression, multiplex serum analytes. Our analysis reveals previously disclosed signatures show highly patterns common up-regulation proinflammatory pathways IFN signaling close similarity to TB-related signatures. also presented pattern both diseases, whereas cytokines patients revealed slightly elevated compared SARC controls. results indicate several differences two increased metabolic activity significantly higher antimicrobial defense responses However, matrix metallopeptidase 14 was as most distinctive marker SARC. Described communalities well distinct not only have considerable implications design biosignatures future diagnosis, but they provide insights into biological processes underlying disease entities different etiology.
