ABSTRACT
The protective effects of estrogen in the cardiovascular system result from both systemic and direct actions hormone on vasculature. Two receptors have been identified, ERα ERβ. We demonstrated previously that inhibits response to vascular injury wild-type ERα-deficient mice, ERβ is expressed blood vessels each, suggesting a role for estrogen. In present study, we examined effect administration mouse carotid arterial ERβ-deficient mice. Surprisingly, ovariectomized female knockout 17β-estradiol markedly equally inhibited increase medial area proliferation smooth muscle cells after injury. These data demonstrate not required estrogen-mediated inhibition injury, suggest either two known sufficient protect against or another unidentified receptor mediates
