ABSTRACT
We located immunohistochemically the matrix metalloproteinases (MMP) -1, -2, -3 and -9 tissue inhibitors of (TIMP) -1 -2 in fibrous capsule patients with intraocular lenses (IOLs).During vitreoretinal surgery 10 we obtained post-cataract lens capsules or without an IOL. The mean interval between previous cataract operation extraction specimens was 35.2 months (range: 2-120 months). Circular sections anterior epithelial cells (LECs) were also during surgery. Specimens processed for immunohistochemical identification MMPs TIMPs by light microscopy. While all members not detected normal capsules, they ECM and/or LECs on extracted within 18 after IOL implantations 4 patients, but observed longer postoperatively. In 1 specimen years postoperatively, MMP-1, other TIMPs, detected.MMPs capsules. These proteins may be remodeling newly deposited regulating LEC behavior residual early phase healing
