ABSTRACT
To investigate the effect of bucillamine for prevention increasing blood-retinal barrier (BRB) permeability in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats. The groups included control and STZ-induced rats treated with or without bucillamine. Six months after intervention, concentrations reduced oxidative glutathione (GSH GSSG) retina were measured biochemically. In addition, vitreous fluorescein, which leaks from vessels intravenous injection fluorescein sodium, was to evaluate BRB permeability. scavenging ability against reactive oxygen species (ROS) vitro, second-order rate constant reaction ROS estimated kinetics based on ROS.The significantly higher (p = 0.01) not bucillamine, inhibited The GSH concentration GSH/GSSG ratio retinas decreased bucillamine; decrease concentrations. activity similar that GSH.In retinas, stress might increase, may be one causes breakdown. antioxidant effects take part inhibition increased diabetes.
