ABSTRACT
Lithium is commonly used in the treatment of bipolar disorders (BD) and consumer electronics. It has been reported that lithium exposure associated with mitochondrial dysfunction oxidative stress isolated cardiac mitochondria. Mitochondrial protection a key role myocardial tissue homeostasis, cardiomyocyte survival inhibition cardiotoxicity. Hesperidin as flavanone cardioprotective agent shown high potential antioxidant activity restoration different models. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate ameliorative effects hesperidin against lithium-induced toxicity rat Isolated mitochondria were classified into six groups; control, carbonate (125 µM), three groups + hesperidin-treated received µM) various concentrations (10, 50, 100 (100 µM). Succinate dehydrogenases (SDH) activity, swelling, membrane (MMP), reactive oxygen species (ROS), glutathione (GSH) lipid peroxidation (LPO) measured. The showed significant reduction SDH MMP collapse, induction ROS formation peroxidation. However, observed administration (50 resulted increase improved reduced Also, there no obvious changes hesperidin. These findings suggest could reduce through activities mitochondria, may be beneficial for prevention toxicities, either drug treat BD or an environmental pollutant.
