ABSTRACT
Abstract The aim of this study was to determine the validity role play as a method for assessing counsellor skill. Video recordings twelve counsellors' performance in both real and simulated counselling interactions were analysed. Skill assessment included molar ratings eight skill areas molecular measures 28 behaviours. A comparison between conditions indicated that there little difference role-play situations. It is concluded modified extended format employed present might be valid technique skills.
