ABSTRACT
CD40 is a member of the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) receptor superfamily. Studies with human B cells show that binding CD154 (gp39, CD40L) to recruits TNF receptor– associated 2 (TRAF2) and TRAF3 complex, induces downregulation nonreceptor-associated TRAFs in cell an increased expression Fas on surface. Combined signaling through interluekin 4 commensurate increase level TRAF2, but not TRAF3, recruited complex. In contrast, engagement membrane immunoglobulin limits upregulation reduces recruitment relative These studies TRAF composition complex can be altered by signals influence differentiation.
