ABSTRACT
Abstract Background Quantitative assessment of muscle mass is a critical step in sarcopenia disease management. Expanding upon the use ultrasound foetal growth assessment, we established and validated an ultrasound-derived system for older adults at risk sarcopenia. Methods A total 669 were recruited three cohorts this cross-sectional study. In cohort 1(n = 103), most valuable sites skeletal index (SMI) estimation located among 11 scanning sites. An SMI estimating algorithm based on thickness (MT) was obtained modelling group composed 1 2 (n 309). The reliability equation validity cut-off values verified 3 257), which selected as verification group. Results group, e-SMI low 7.13 kg/m2 men 5.81 women. intraclass correlation between 0.885. sensitivity detecting 93.6% 89.7% women, negative predictive value 94.9% 94.7% Combined with handgrip strength gait speed, had overall diagnostic 92.7% specificity 91.0% Conclusion can be promising tool potential classification tool.
