Introduction: sarcopenia is associated with adverse health outcomes. The aim of this study was to describe the prevalence in community-dwelling older people UK using European Working Group on Sarcopenia Older People (EWGSOP) consensus definition. Methods: we applied EWGSOP definition 103 men participating Hertfordshire Study (HSS) both lowest third dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) lean mass (LM) and skin-fold-based fat-free (FFM) as markers low muscle mass. We also used FFM approach among 765 male 1,022 female participants Cohort (HCS). Body size, physical performance self-reported were compared without sarcopenia. Results: HSS (mean age 73 years) 6.8% 7.8% when DXA LM FFM, respectively. highly correlated (0.91, P < 0.001). HCS women 67 4.6% 7.9%, shorter, weighed less had worse performance. poorer general functioning scores. Conclusions: one first studies people. practical use for case finding. next step other ageing cohorts a range health-care settings.
