The accuracy of diagnosis of parkinsonian syndromes in a specialist movement disorder service

ABSTRACT
We have reviewed the clinical and pathological diagnoses of 143 cases parkinsonism seen by neurologists associated with movement disorders service at The National Hospital for Neurology Neurosurgery in London who came to neuropathological examination United Kingdom Parkinson's Disease Society Brain Research Centre, over a 10-year period between 1990 end 1999. Seventy-three (47 male, 26 female) were diagnosed as having idiopathic disease (IPD) 70 (42 28 another parkinsonian syndrome. positive predictive value diagnosis whole group was 85.3%, 122 correctly clinically diagnosed. IPD extremely high, 98.6% (72 out 73), while other syndromes it 71.4% (50 70). values multiple system atrophy (MSA) progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) 85.7 (30 35) 80% (16 20), respectively. sensitivity 91.1%, due seven false-negative cases, 72 79 pathologically established being life.
