ABSTRACT
Are maternal plasma concentrations of perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) during pregnancy associated with anogenital distance (AGD) in male infants at birth, 6, 12 months age?Higher some PFASs were shorter AGD birth 6 age.Two animal studies have found that exposure to was rat fetuses wild minks. There is only one human study on the topic did not identify consistent patterns between serum infants. In prospective cohort study, a total 1292 eligible pregnant women recruited 12-16 weeks gestation April December 2012 Maternal Child Health Hospital Minhang district Shanghai, China. At delivery, 667 singletons born. They then followed up (n = 439) 411) 376) age when anopenile (AGDAP) anoscrotal (AGDAS) measured.A 500 who had both least measurement three time points included present study. Multiple linear regression models used evaluate potential associations AGD.Maternal (ln-transformed) perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS), perfluorodecanoic acid (PFDA), perfluoroundecanoic (PFUdA) inversely AGDAS or AGDAP (AGDAS: per ln unit increase PFAS concentrations: β (95% CI): -0.65 (-1.27 -0.02) mm for PFOS; -0.58 (-1.11 -0.06) PFDA; -0.57 (-1.09 PFUdA; AGDAP: -0.63 (-1.24 -0.01) PFDA - 0.76 (-1.36 -0.16) PFUdA). age, PFOS perfluorotridecanoic (PFTrDA), decreased average by -2.21 CI: -4.28 -0.14) -1.11 -2.17 mm, respectively. Additionally, ln-transformed perfluorooctanoic (PFOA) showed nonsignificant but inverse age. We no significant either However, significantly association PFOA observed never shortly breastfed (<3 months) age.AGD measurements performed different examiners each follow-up visit, intra-examiner variation assessed, which might cause intra-rater inter-rater errors. our may selection bias since considerable number participants withdrew from although differences demographic characteristics statistically mother-infant pairs those excluded. No statistical correction made multiple comparisons. Our findings important implications early development genital health can be detected almost all worldwide. This supported grants National Key Research Development program China (2018YFC1002801 2016YFC1000505), Science Technology Commission Shanghai Municipality (16ZR1430100), Natural Foundation (81428011), Innovation-Oriented Grant Laboratory Reproduction Regulation (CX2017-06).
