ABSTRACT
Plant entries that previously had tested resistant or susceptible to Russian wheat aphid, Diuraphis noxia (Mordvilko), were used evaluate the effect of aphid feeding on leaf chlorophyll content and in vivo fluorescence induction kinetics. D. for 96 h caused significant reductions a, b, total ('Avon', 'TAM W-101') barley ('Wintermalt'). Total constituent a b levels not significantly affected by (PI 366616, PI 372129) 366450) neither 386156) nor ('Beagle 82') critical. infestation resulted alterations primary transients. When compared with non infested control plants, showed increased variable (F0) decreased maximal (Fm) (Fv). In contrast, values these parameters did differ among controls plants. photochemical efficiency photo system II (F/Fm) half-rise time from Fo Fm (t1/2) reduced but remained relatively unchanged cultivates. No differences between plants observed measured either critical, which implied much different resistance mechanism(s) The results this investigation suggest damage goes beyond simple removal photosyntheses plant. substantial decrease F/Fm following indicated capacity photochemistry II.
