ABSTRACT
The surveillance and management of Dacini fruit fly pests are commonly split by gender: male trapping focuses on the dacine 'male-lures', whereas female lures based host-fruit volatiles. Although males several species have been reported to be attracted host volatiles, option using traps for has, date, ignored. Males cue-lure responsive Bactrocera tryoni (Froggatt) recorded as responding volatile blends, but it is not known how frequently this happens, if age-dependent, or strength response relative throughout year. Here, we conducted an olfactometer experiment test lifetime (weeks 1-15) B. odor tomato, a fly, compare catches wild tomato-based in field. started respond tomato they sexually matured (2 3 wk olds) thereafter showed consistent olfactory until advanced age (15 wk). In field, were captured year at level significantly different from traps. reason stage known, certainly occurs greater than can continued ignored both basic applied research.
