Feasibility of the Musical Contour Regulation Facilitation (MCRF) Intervention for Preschooler Emotion Regulation Development: A Mixed Methods Study

ABSTRACT
Emotion regulation (ER) describes the goal-directed ability to manage and shape dynamics timing of one's emotional experiences expressions, an that develops early in life. Though development maladaptive ER skills can significantly impact developmental outcomes, interventions for at-risk children are limited. The purpose this mixed methods study was examine feasibility preliminary efficacy Musical Contour Regulation Facilitation (MCRF) intervention, a multi-session strategy promoting preschoolers, with focus on typically developing preschoolers as exploration novel intervention. Eight (M = 3.88 years) participated 11-session MCRF intervention across four weeks. ER-related behaviors were assessed pre- post-intervention, teacher interviews conducted post-intervention. Teachers noted positive change children's behavior following terms their emotion peer interactions. Furthermore, they believed importance music outcomes. Large medium effects sizes abilities noted, acceptability integration into regular daycare environment supported by interview data. Findings support further refinement examination who at risk.
