ABSTRACT
We examine the kinematic morphology of early-type galaxies (ETGs) in three galaxy clusters Abell 85, 168 and 2399. Using data from Sydney-AAO Multi-object Integral field spectrograph we measure spatially resolved kinematics for 79 ETGs these clusters. calculate λR, a proxy projected specific stellar angular momentum, each classify our samples as fast or slow rotators. fraction rotators ETG populations (fSR) to be 0.21 ± 0.08, 0.08 0.12 0.06 2399, respectively, with an overall 0.15 0.04. These numbers are broadly consistent values found literature, confirming recent work asserting that population is constant across many orders magnitude global environment. distribution classes cluster function environment using density galaxies: morphology–density relation. find 85 fSR increases higher regions but 2399 this trend not seen. differences between individual explain this. In addition, on outskirts two studied, reside intermediate low have clearly formed at centre hypothesize they centres groups falling into first time.
