ABSTRACT
Cuscuta campestris is an obligate parasitic plant that requires a host to complete its life cycle. Parasite-host connections occur via haustorium, unique organ acts as bridge for the uptake of water, nutrients, and macromolecules. Research on often complicated by influences, but comparable systems growing parasite in absence do not exist. We developed axenic method grow C. artificial system (AHS). evaluated effects nutrients phytohormones haustoria development growth. Haustorium morphology gene expression were also characterized. The AHS consists inert, fibrous stick mimics stem, wicking water parasite. It enables exhibit habit develop through all stages cycle, including production new shoots viable seeds. 1-naphthaleneacetic acid 6-benzylaminopurine affect increase fresh weight biomass. Unigene reflects processes similar those living plants. methodological improvement studying biology avoiding specific giving researchers full control environment.
