ABSTRACT
Nitrogen (N) is a critical factor for crop growth and yield. Improving N use efficiency (NUE) in agricultural systems crucial sustainable food production. However, the underlying regulation of uptake utilization crops not well known. Here, we identified OsSNAC1 (stress-responsive NAC 1) as an upstream regulator OsNRT2.1 (nitrate transporter 2.1) rice (Oryza sativa) by yeast 1-hybridization screening. was mainly expressed roots shoots induced deficiency. We observed similar expression patterns OsSNAC1, OsNRT2.1/2.2, OsNRT1.1A/B response to NO3- supply. Overexpression resulted increased concentrations free shoots, higher uptake, NUE, index (NUI) plants, which conferred plant biomass grain On contrary, mutations decreased lower NUI, inhibited overexpression significantly upregulated OsNRT2.1/2.2 expression, while mutation downregulated expression. Y1H, transient co-expression, ChIP assays showed directly binds promoter regions OsNRT1.1A/1.1B. In conclusion, transcription rice, with positive role regulating through direct binding OsNRT1.1A/1.1B activating their Our results provide potential genetic approach improving NUE agriculture.
