ABSTRACT
The purpose of the present study was to determine if supplementation ascorbic acid (AA) diet would have a beneficial effect on infectious bursal disease (IBD) vaccination chickens for protection against virus (IBDV) infection. Two hundred forty specific pathogen-free (SPF) were divided into eight experimental groups. A 2 x factorial arrangement in completely randomized design used; AA at 1,000 ppm diet, vaccination, and challenge main effects. Prior 10 d after challenge, serum concentration, corticosterone ELISA antibody titer IBDV, body weight, bursa-to-body weight (B:B) ratio, histological score (BHS) determined. Nonvaccinated fed supplemented with did not exhibit clinical signs or mortality following whereas AA-unsupplemented counterparts had 100% cumulative morbidity 30% mortality. Serum levels AA-supplemented vaccinated significantly (P < 0.05) higher than chickens. Fourteen days titers IBDV observed as compared counterparts. Ascorbic acid-supplemented chickens, especially those also vaccinated, gains challenged show any results suggest that has effects response IBD gain.
