ABSTRACT
Deposition of Schistosoma mansoni eggs in the brain patients with hepatosplenic schistosomiasis (HS-SM) is frequent and usually asymptomatic. However, it questioned whether could cause seizures. Thus, we investigated occurrence seizures these also searched for parameters associated this disorder.In a cross-sectional survey, compared 128 HS-SM 102 portal hypertension due to compensated chronic hepatic disease other etiologies. A standardized questionnaire, emphasizing epilepsy-related parameters, was applied all participants.Eight (6.3%) had history seizures, whereas condition reported by three (2.9%) individuals from comparison group (p=0.354). None variables were either univariate or multivariate analysis.The frequency similar both study groups. higher than that described population-based studies. hypothesize may have seizure.
