ABSTRACT
Endophytes play important roles in promoting plant growth and controlling diseases. Verticillium wilt is a vascular disease caused by dahliae, widely distributed soilborne pathogen that causes significant economic losses on cotton each year. In this study, an endophyte KRS015, isolated from the seed of wilt-resistant Gossypium hirsutum ‘Zhongzhimian No. 2’, was identified as Bacillus subtilis morphological, phylogenetic, physiological, biochemical analyses. The volatile organic compounds (VOCs) produced KRS015 or its cell-free fermentation extract had antagonistic effects various pathogenic fungi, including V. dahliae. reduced index colonization dahliae treated seedlings significantly; reduction rate ∼62%. also promoted growth, potentially mediated growth-related genes GhACL5 GhCPD-3. triggered hypersensitivity response, reactive oxygen species (ROS) expression resistance-related genes. VOCs inhibited germination conidia mycelial were development-related such VdHapX, VdMcm1, Vdpf, Vel1. These results suggest potential agent for cotton.
