ABSTRACT
Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) represent psychosocial stressors that occur during critical developmental periods and are associated in a dose-dependent manner with adverse cardiovascular outcomes emerging adults, including greater age-related increases blood pressure (BP) increased circulating endothelin-1 (ET-1), stress-responsive, endothelium-derived peptide potent vasoconstrictor. ACEs have also been linked to lower resilience hope, which is motivational state based on goal-directed energy (agency) goal planning (pathways). Importantly, hope each stable psychological traits may protect against adversity. We examined the effects of structured, progressive exercise training program agency, pathways, resilience, BP, ET-1 young adult women history moderate-to-severe (e.g., 4 or more) (ACEs). hypothesized would increase but systolic BP (SBP), diastolic (DBP), ET-1. further changes be across intervention period ACEs. Forty-two otherwise healthy either four more (ACE+) no (ACE-) were recruited completed this study. Participants randomly assigned an (n=14) non-exercise control group, whereas without negative group; n=14). Statistical analyses included two-way mixed (group x time) bivariate correlational analyses. Changes reported as means ± SE. Agency did not change any group (p = 0.14), pathways improved only ACE+ (+1.6 0.74 au; p 0.03). decreased (-0.31 0.29 pg/ml, p= 0.04). While interactions for SBP reach significance 0.06 0.05, respectively), forced post-hoc indicated (+4.9 1.9 au, 0.01) tended improve (-4.0 2.0 mmHg; 0.05) only. DBP 0.43). There significant inverse associations between (ρ -0.43, 0.02) -0.56, 0.003), direct association 0.49; women. Associations among weaker non-significant -0.17-0.29, p≥ 0.13). Our results suggest promotes improvements positive factors, SBP, levels adults Further, related period, suggesting potential psychophysiological relationship risk factors
