How a Professional Identity is Forged in the Anatomy Lab for Medical Students

ABSTRACT
It is recognized that the development of a professional identity significantly influenced by experiences in academic and clinical settings, through certain rites passage, such as, learning from cadavers. Little known, however, about how cadaver lab actively shape Professional. To understand impact anatomy have on students' formation, first year students were surveyed before their session. Four months after commencing sessions, completed another survey focus groups conducted. In both groups, asked to explore perceptions themselves as students, physicians training, idealized physicians, congruency between values held behaviors displayed. When rank own perception peers lab, positioned pathway towards medical professional. They ranked those coping best with experience closest qualities physician they admire. The emphasis professionalism course had positive experience.
