ABSTRACT
Objective: Immuno-inflammation plays a key role in the process of atherosclerosis and vascular stiffness as surrogates for Early Vascular Ageing (EVA). Our aim was to evaluate association between Neutrophil Lymphocyte Ratio (NLR), validated inflammatory marker, arterial represented by pulse wave velocity (PWV), population-based sample. Design method: We included prospectively 237 adults who attended cardiovascular screening tests. They provided data about lifestyle history completing WHO STEPS Survey. NLR calculated dividing number neutrophils lymphocytes from peripheral blood PWV determined Mobil-O-Graph device. Using regression models we explored PWV, adjusted baseline variables. Results: Mean age population 52.7 ± 23.8 years, 45% female. Risk factors prevalence was: diabetes 8.4%, active smoking 33%, hypertension 43%, dyslipidemia 29%.Unvariable analyses showed that (p < 0.001), 0.0001), 0.0001) = 0.04) were significantly associated PWV. By multivariable analysis, demonstrated linear independent relationship with smoking, diabetes, hypertension. Conclusions: The (NLR) independently which may suggest state chronic inflammation contributing arteriosclerosis development. could represent an inexpensive resource predict stiffness, EVA high risk.
